County Cub Camp  90th Birthday

9th - 11th June 2006

16 Cubs set off for County Camp at Tolmers Scout Camp Park. On arrival at Tolmers we were directed to our site only to find that the GSL had erected our mess tent under the trees which seemed a silly place as the weather was forecasted to be hot and sunny.

The Cubs with the help of our explorer unit set about getting their tents up. Once they were up they sorted their gear out and went exploring round the trees by our site.

The Cubs went off to the opening ceremony as the leaders had a cup of tea while sorting out the mess tent. After the ceremony the leaders set about getting the Cubs their supper before they got ready for bed and lights out.

On Saturday morning the Cubs woke early and had breakfast. It was a very hot and sunny morning and suddenly we became very grateful that the GSL had placed the mess tent under the trees as this provided some very welcome shade.

After breakfast the Cubs were put into mixed groups with other Cubs from different groups in our district and went off to do some of the many and varied activities on offer.

The 201st and 34th Islington had been allocated the base of first aid to run.

After lunch the activities resumed but the activity field was deserted as almost everyone was watching the England v Paraguay game that was being shown on the site.

Despite the fact that we were located at the far end of the site, we knew that England had scored as we could hear the cheering.

Saturday evening saw the large County campfire being held followed by a huge outdoor disco. Everyone really enjoyed the disco very much.

On the Sunday morning the district held their own Scouts Own, where 11 Cubs from CCI (including 4 from the 201st) were invested.

The Activities resumed again Sunday morning. Many Cubs decided to use this time to pack there belonging and begin to take down their tents.

After lunch the camp closed officially with a closing ceremony which included the candle lighting of a massive 90th birthday cake.

The camp gave the opportunity for the Cubs to do much work towards the Outdoor Challenge and Camping badges.

7 Cubs also passed the Athletes badge whilst on camp.

We would like to thank the explorer unit and the other leaders from the 201st who gave us a lot of help in making this a good camp for the Cubs.
