201st Cubs Win District Uni-Hoc

For the second time in three years the Cub section won the District Uni-hoc competition.

Seven Cubs took part, Callum, Milo, Liam, Liam, Rob, Kieran and George who won after putting in lots of practice over the last few weeks, which paid off. Little Liam played in goal letting in only three goals in the competition.

The Cubs played two group games drawing 1-1 with the 11th and beating the 34th B team 2-0.

The other group matches saw the 31st finish top and the 34th A team finished second.

In the first semi final we were up against the 34th A team . The 201st team coach, Matthew, was by this time very excited and psyching the Cubs up to win the semi final.

We knew they would be a worthy challenge in our hopes of winning the competition. All through the first half he was calling out instructions which paid off as Callum and Milo scored to see us leading 2-0 at half time.

The 34th pulled a goal back late in the second half but following instructions they kept the puck away from our goal for the rest of the second half not giving them a chance to equalise. As the final whistle sounded they danced round the hall joined by Matthew knowing they had made the final.

In the other semi-final the 31st beat the 11th setting up a final between last years winners and the winners of two years ago.

The 31st had not conceded a goal up to the final but within 4 minutes we were leading 2-0 with goals from Callum and Liam and looking very comfortable as the first half finished.

As they swapped round for the second half there was a little touch line coaching as we called out instructions telling the Cubs just keep the puck away from our goal to win.

In the second half every time the 31st got near our goal our defence of Liam and George just hit the puck back down the hall as per instructions. The 31st then sent a long pass down the hall which our defence just missed and they scored making the score 2-1.

Hearts started to race as the Cubs poured forward. With three quick passes we opened the 31st defence and Milo scored making it 3-1.

The clock seemed to round down so slowly until the referee blew the final whistle. The Cubs again danced round the hall only this time singing ‘Champions’.

One of our Cubs Kit. showed great sportsmanship by joining the 31st who were 1 player short.

Earlier in the year the Cubs won the 5-a-side meaning we have won two of the 4 main competitions that make up the Shere-Khan trophy.

The Shere-Khan trophy is the main trophy that goes to the pack who win the most competitions Through the Scouting year. Going into the sports day in June we know we will at least be joint winners for this year. If we do better than the 34th we will be outright winners.

2006

The District Uni-Hoc finals were held on the 29 March 2006.

The 201st had both A and B teams in the last four after both finished 1st and 2nd the week before in the knockout stages.

The finals begun with the A team playing the 34th team. After only two minutes the 34th were 2 up but the A team came back and finished the game winning 3-2. The B team played the much fancied 5th and held out for the best part of the game but lost in the end 1-0.The B team followed on by playing the 34th they played well but again lost by the same score 1-0.

The 5th then beat the 34th 2-1. Before the game in which both the 201st A and B teams had been waiting for to play each other. The B team tried hard and the score of 5-0 to the A team was not a disgrace to the B team.

This set up the final game of the night.

After the game against the B team one of the A team cubs sustained a minor hand injury but after some treatment from our first aider Sam. He was determined to play the final game.

So it was set the A team played the 5th knowing a draw would be good enough as we had a better goal difference. The leaders set out a game plan to play for a draw and hit them on the break.

After only a minute the game plan went out the window. The A team were 1 up and went for the 5th. The leaders were telling them to hold back but they just poured forward and by half time were 3 up.

The leaders were still trying to get them to hold back but by 2 minutes into the second half they were 5-0 up. The leaders gave up and let them play their own game.

On the final whistle the 5th pulled a goal back but it was to late.

The game was over we had won 5-1 and the A team were the District Uni-Hoc champions of 2006.

The B team finished fourth but must NOT be at all upset as they have scored very important points for the Cub Section in the run up for the overall Cub Section championship and the Shere-Khan trophy.
